Extinction of Morals

Samuel Adams, one of our nation’s founders, wisely noted from his religious training, life and attitude that:

“Revelation assures us that ‘Righteousness exalteth a Nation’—Communities are dealt with in this World by the wise and just Ruler of the Universe. He rewards or punishes them according to their general Character. The diminution of publick Virtue is usually attended with that of publick Happiness, and the publick Liberty will not long survive the total Extinction of Morals.”

The current condition of our nation’s populous and more so of those elected to represent them reveals that we may be in for some tough times in the near future.

Recent reports of moral and integrity failures among our elected officials serve to highlight the depth of the problem. As stated so well by Walt Kelly in the now extinct Pogo cartoon series so many years ago, "We have met the enemy and he is us." Corrupt, and often moneyed, politicians have managed to blind people to their true agenda and thus seduced voters into placing them in office where they can further line their pockets with money generated from the labors of the public.

The devolution of morality in the United States, pointed out even by our enemies and those inclined to terrorist acts, does not bode well for us and our future liberty. We are too much in debt to those not our friends.

Without a return to the solid values recommended by the Christian Bible: Humility, integrity, self-denial, courage, commitment, honor, etc. we place our liberty at risk.

We no longer have the option of assuming the political system is acting in our best interests. We must closely follow the initiatives and decisions and depose those who demonstrably serve themselves instead of the public.
